Jerusalem - December 20

The day after I arrived in Tel Aviv, we went back to Jerusalem, to go inside the Old City, which we were unable to do in the spring because of security threats during the Orthodox Easter. We were actually very lucky, because a few days later violence broke out in Jerusalem again, this time because of the Israeli-Palenstinian troubles, and it would have been inadvisable to go into the city. Here we are waiting outside the Jaffa Gate for our guide.

Inside the walls of the Jewish Quarter.

Me with our guide, whose name is Israel.

These are some ruins that are being excavated in the Jewish Quarter from the Roman period.

This excavation shows how thick the original city walls were during Roman times.

These shots were taken from atop a hostel in the Christian quarter where we stopped for coffee.

This is the Dome of the Rock, outside the gates.

We followed the Via Dolorosa and the 14 Stations of the Cross. This crowded market in the Muslim quarter is on the route.

Entrance to one of the many churches along the Via Dolorosa.

Another church, this one Ethiopian.

The roof of the Ethiopian church. The monks actually live up here in these huts, to keep other denominations from laying claim to the church.

This is the rock slab where Christ's body was prepared for the tomb after His crucifixtion.

Bob and me at the entrance to Christ's tomb.

Life Is One Adventure After Another!

I started this blog page as a way to keep everyone up to date on Bob while he was working over in Egypt, and to share our wonderful travel experiences. Now that he's back home, I'll still post family updates once in awhile, as well as items of potential interest from the Decatur front... Life's little adventures continue... ;-)

Love,
Nana
